A number of well-meaning visitors to this site seem a little confused as to
its purpose; they labour under the mis-apprehension that this is merely a
joke-site that has no serious content.
But what constitutes serious content?
Is it dreary greys and understated municipal graphics?
Is it dry technicality and dead-pan sentiment?
Or, maybe, the corporate-cloned formality of print on the morning paper?
True, there is some superlative stuff out there, but not enough I fear.
I am an excellent graphic-designer with an enviable knowledge of the
world and a matching command of the english language.
I want to make a serious sell to the world, so, for instance, should I rely on
run-times that need to be downloaded? ----You must be joking!
For me there is only java 1 and 1.1 because there's not a business
machine in the whole of the World Wide Web that cannot use it straight off
the cuff. This is non-negotiable: I want to be first in the market-place.
And when I program an applet I call on more than java because my
effects are coldly calculated to work on every level desired.
To the people who say: "He can't be remotely serious because he makes too many jokes,"
I respectfully point-out that Humour and Creativity are a couple of bottles
come from the same bucket;
when you tumble to a joke or gain a flash of insight you're using the
same equipment.
If anyone thinks that humour can't have a deadly streak, think again.
Humour is the best tool in the world for embedding images that associate
favourably in the mind of a customer.
Dont take my word for it:
think of all the products so successfully hawked on the telly.
--How many of 'em are there in your mind because they made you laugh..??
Who was it who flogged all them teabags for PG TIPS -- a hanging-judge..?
Do you love anyone enough to give 'em your last rolo? Pigs'll fly !!
All this is an important part of good presentation, and presentation is the
name of the game.
Business acumen may be the force behind the product but without good savvy and gutter-psychology it lacks direction and will always fall short
of the mark.
But for creative ideas to be of any use they must first be creatively
received.
You may need to appeal to the one sense to gain attention for the other.
So, while you're laughing for joy at the elegance of a solution,
give some thought to the way you're about to present it:
you may need to tickle a funny-bone or two before you tickle a fancy.
